Update from DEC

posted Dec 11, 2016, 6:00 PM by POENB Association
On November 22, 2016, the DEC sent a letter to the Village of Asharoken explaining what information the Village needed to provide to move the ASDRP Project forward and requested a decision by the Village on whether or not they would be able to provide this information by December 7, 2016. The Village requested an extension to the deadline in a November 28, 2016 letter to DEC. After discussions with the Corps, the DEC sent a follow-up letter to the Village, dated December 5, 2016, explaining that the Corps intended to notify their chain of command in December that they planned to complete the Project with a negative report if a response is not received by the Village.

The Village has verbally agreed to provide a response to DEC's November 22nd letter by January 10th after they have taken a survey of the residents regarding the Project.  If the Project is suspended by the Corps, discussions with the Town of Huntington, Village of Asharoken, Corps, and other Federal, State, and local agencies will be needed to discuss potential alternatives to the Project.
